Edward Charles Burkert, of Whitehall, died at home, Monday, December 19, 2022, following a year-long struggle with stage 4 cancer. He was born February 26, 1957, in Beech Grove, Indiana, to Edward F. and Mary Jo Burkert, the oldest of five children.

He worked at and retired from Howmet Corp. in Whitehall after 42 years of service, and was a guiding light for his family and siblings. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and being with his family.

Ed is survived by: his wife, Ruth; three children, Edward (Heather Buxton) Burkert of Whitehall, Michael Burkert of Whitehall, and Melissa (Landon) Lapham of North Muskegon; three siblings, Paul Burkert of Muskegon, Philip Burkert of Gurnee, Ill, and Rebecca (Don) Kark of South Haven; along with nieces, nephews, and cousins; and aunt and godmother, Theresa Springman of Indianapolis, Indiana.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Burkert.

In accordance with Ed's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, January 14, 2023, from 1-5 p.m., at South Shore Resort, 2928 Middle Lake Rd, Twin Lake, Michigan 49457. There will be a short service at 1 p.m. with food and refreshments to follow.
