Edward "Ed" C. Schmidt, 89, of Whitehall, died Monday, January 23, 2017, at Robbinswood Assisted Living Northcrest Campus in North Muskegon. He was born September 30, 1927, in Muskegon, the son of Edward A. and Hulda (Hillstrom) Schmidt.
Ed was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the US ARMY, where he was stationed in Japan.
Ed retired from Continental Motors in Muskegon, where he had been employed for over 40 years. Ed also sold keycases, billfolds, change purses and other leather goods. In his spare time, Ed enjoyed playing golf, sailing and wheeling and dealing.
Ed is survived by: his brother, Bob Schmidt of Whitehall; his nephews, Robert Schmidt and Chuck Schmidt; his great nieces and nephews, Angela Franklin, Amber (Jeremy) Scott, and Traci (Brad) Murphy; his great-great-nieces and nephews, Devon Schmidt, Colby Flahive, Colin Flahive, Reagan Murphy, Reily Murphy, Brice Murphy, Braxton Murphy and Brody Murphy; and his nephew-in-law, Greg (Denise Marquhet) Johnson.
Ed was preceded in death by: his wife, Eunice; his parents; sister-in-law, Audrey Schmidt; and his niece, Linda Johnson.
Visitation and a time to celebrate Ed's life will be held Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, in Whitehall. Interment will be in the Oakhurst Cemetery in Whitehall.
