Mrs. Eldamae Leona Strait, age 90, of Shelby, passed away Sunday, January 31, 2016. She was born September 15, 1925, in Peshtigo, WI to Conrad and Martha Schroeder. Eldamae graduated from high school and attended college. She married Elwood Strait on January 17, 1960 in Wisconsin, and they were married twenty-four years before his passing on October 7, 1984. She was employed at Powers Clothing Store.

Mrs. Strait was an accomplished seamstress, making all her own clothing. She also made custom window treatments. Eldamae also made Amy's, her daughter-in-law, her wedding dress as well as all the bridesmaid dresses. Each grandchild was the recipient of their very own Christmas stocking lovingly embroidered and sewn by grandma.

Eldamae is survived by two sons, Peter (Amy) Strait of Hart, John (Beth) Strait of Shelby; eight grandchildren, Trent Hardy, Emily (Joe) Mitchell, Kegan Strait, Kaden Strait, Jacob Zachary Strait, Jacob Conrad Strait, Kevin Strait, and Ashley Strait; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Sophia Joy Mitchell and one on the way Olivia due in April. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elwood Strait; granddaughter, Tiffany Hardy; brother, Erv Schroeder; and sister, Hazel.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Strait will be Friday, February 5, 2016, at 11:00 am at St. Stephen Lutheran Church in Shelby with Rev. Thomas W. Bye officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at King Funeral Home in Hart. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Hospice Of Michigan (Donation Processing Center), 5177 W. US 10 Ste.
