Elizabeth Jennie Carter O'Brien, 86, of Hart, passed away Friday, November 2, 2018, at Cherry Blossom Manor in Hart, entering there one day prior. She was born October 28, 1932, in Colfax Township, Oceana County, Michigan, the daughter of Phineas David and Jennie (Arnold) Carter Sr.
Elizabeth attended Argubright Business College in Battle Creek and earned her associates degree from Muskegon Community College. She worked as a secretary at Continental Motors and later as a nurse's aide at Beacon Light Nursing Home. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker and had been an active member of St. Gregory and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Churches. She was a life member of the VFW Post #1329 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the St. Gregory Bible Study Group, the National Democratic Party where she served as Chairperson of Oceana County Democrats for a decade and the Villa Maria Retirement Community.
Elizabeth is survived by: her Brother Robert (Norma) Carter, her children, Sarah A.E. (Roger) Sheldon, John Carter (Danita) O'Brien, Dwight (Judy) O'Brien, Joseph (Patty) O'Brien, Patrick O'Brien, and Jennie O'Brien (Phillip Tocco); her grandchildren, Katherine (Joe) Weber, Benjamin (Lisa) Scheid, Jacob Scheid, Kelly Scheid, Elizabeth (Aaron) Kahny, Meghan (Dan) Hernandez, John Michael & Christopher & Nicole & Devin & Molly Finn & Parker & Logan (all O'Brien), Madeline & William & Georgia Tocco; her great-grandchildren, Sadie & Claire Scheid, Ayden & Maxwell & Ayla Hernandez, Ezra & Aria Jade Scheid, Charlie Weber, Jude & (baby TBD) Kahny, Christopher John O'Brien.
Elizabeth converted to the Roman Catholic Church as a young adult. On July 21, 1956, at Blessed Sacrament Church, in El Paso, Texas, Elizabeth married John Charles O'Brien who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by: her parents; and 2 brothers, James Carter and Phineas (Dorothy) Carter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 5, 2018, at St. Gregory Catholic Church, in Hart, with Father Wayne B. Wheeler presiding. Interment will follow in Elbridge Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00 AM until time of Mass as the church.
