Obituary

Ernesto Vela, age 44, of Shelby, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022, after a hard fought health battle. He was born October 29, 1977, in Shelby, the son of Valentin Sr. and Juanita (Flores) Vela.

Ernie, as he was often known, was an avid sports enthusiast; a die-hard fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Michigan Wolverines, and Detroit Tigers. He constantly had 'a game to watch' whether it be in person or on TV. You could really tell his passion for sports with his loud whistles and cheering. He had a huge heart and loved very deeply. His kind and gentle nature made him a favorite of both kids and animals. He is already missed by the 4 dogs but especially Daisy, his tiny chihuahua. Ernie always had a huge smile on his face, a smile that could truly light up an entire room. He never met a stranger. Everyone was just a friend he hadn't talked to yet. He had a large circle of friends and family and enjoyed making everyone laugh. Ernie was a very loyal person who would always stand up for and protect his family and friends. He especially had great pride in his children oftentimes seen in the stands to support them in various sports and other activities. Ernie also had a love of music. If there wasn't music nearby, he would just make his own. He loved to sing and was often heard singing while working, showering or driving. To put it simply, it was rarely quiet when Ernie was around. He definitely lived life out loud.

Ernesto is survived by: his wife, Connie Vela; children, son Kaden Vela, and daughter, Jazlyn Vela (Keagon Arquette); sisters, San Juanita Marquez (Johnny) and Trina Luevano (Armando); brothers, Rolando Vela (Adela), Valentin Vela Jr. (Esperanza), and Valentin Vela III (Mari); in-laws, Leonel and Zulema Herrera; brother-in-law, Dan Ramirez; sister-in-law, Lisa Herrera (Robert Martin); 20 nieces and nephews, 16 great-nieces and great-nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Ernesto was preceded in death by: his parents, Valentin Sr. and Juanita (Flores) Vela; and sister-in law, Marivel Brandel.

It was Ernesto's wish that his friends and family remember the life that he lived. He was a beautiful soul that deserved to be remembered at his best. In keeping his wishes, there will be no services held at this time.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
