Estelle Bernadine Roelofs, 87, of Lake Ann, died Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at Culver Meadows Senior Living in Traverse City. She was born December 6, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Jacoba (Kist) Fischer.
When her children were young, Estelle worked as a school bus driver in Jenison. She later moved to Lake Ann where she and her husband owned and operated Roelofs Resort overlooking the lake. She also worked at Meijer for more than 20 years, starting in the deli before transitioning to greeter. Blessed with the "gift of gab," her Meijer greeter position was the perfect job for her.
Estelle loved Lake Ann. She worked the elections, ensuring everything ran smoothly and she frequently volunteered for fundraisers. She loved to travel, both throughout the United States and internationally; her most memorable trips were to England. In her spare time, Estelle enjoyed ceramics, macramé, gardening, puzzles, and visiting with her family and friends.
Estelle is survived by: five sons, Dale (Sandy) Roelofs, Bob (Sharon) Roelofs, Greg Roelofs, Dave (Wendy) Roelofs, and Kris (Lisa) Roelofs; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; siblings, Marietta Struik and Bernie Fischer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
On August 27, 1954, in Grand Rapids, Estelle married Eugene D. Roelofs who preceded her in death on July 3, 2002. She was also preceded in death by: her parents; and siblings, Lois "Babe" Madera and Joseph Mooney.
A celebration of Estelle's life will be held from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Friday, October 29, 2021, with a brief service starting at 11:30 AM, at the Lake Ann Townhall, 19639 Maple Street, Lake Ann, Michigan 49650. (Downtown Lake Ann).
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Ann Historical Society, the Almira Township Fire Department, or the Alzheimer's Foundation.
