Obituary

Mrs. Ethel Maxine Ewing, age 87, of Hart, passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2014. She was born January 24, 1927, in Weare Township to Lewis and Mamie (Greiner) Kokx. She married Ivan Ewing, Sr. on November 13, 1948, at St. Joseph Parish; they were married forty-four years before his death on August 5, 1993. Ethel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose family always meant everything to her and she was a caregiver for them. Her grandchildren hold very special memories of Grandma. She was a devout Catholic who prayed the Rosary every day and was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Joseph Altar Society. She served for a time as the treasurer of the Weare Crystal PTA, and worked for the 5 & 10 Store in Hart, Pentwater Electric, and Farm Bureau.

Ethel is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (Chuck) Parnell and Laura (Phil) Stone, both of Hart; three sons, Ray (Donna) Ewing of Montague, Carl (Shirley) Ewing of Hart, and Ivan (Annie) Ewing, Jr. of Hart; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorraine Bray of Grand Rapids; and one sister-in-law, Carol Kokx of Ludington. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ivan Ewing; a grandson, Anthony Ewing; three brothers, LaVern Kokx, Willard Kokx, and Lawrence Kokx; her brother-in-law, Francis Bray; and her sister-in-law, Ella Marie Kokx.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Ewing will be offered Friday, May 9, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Phillip Sliwinski presiding. The Rosary will be recited Friday, May 9, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Memorials may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2380 W. Jackson Rd. Hart, MI 49420 or to Mercy Hospice VNS, 888 Terrace St., Muskegon, MI 49440.
