Mr. Eugene Carl Schaner, age 87, of Hart, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at home.  He was born April 14, 1930, in Grand Rapids to Clarence and Frances (Frishett) Schaner. Gene married the former Barbara Walker on September 15, 1956 at St. Gregory Catholic Church in Hart. He was a US Army veteran serving in Korea. Gene was a letter carrier in Hart for 30 years retiring in 1988. He was an active member of St. Gregory Catholic Church.

Gene's interests included ceramics, painting, playing cards and board games, puzzles. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed working in the yard and puttering around home. Gene was extremely proud of his grandchildren and all of their accomplishments.

Gene is survived by his wife: Barbara Schaner; five daughters: Robby Schaner of Hart, Sandy (Don) Brossard of Whitehall, Pam (Steve) Gates of White Pigeon, MI, Debbie (Dan) Schaner of Hart and Laurie (Dan) Kirwin of Big Rapids, MI and one son: Tim (Jen) Schaner of Traverse City, MI; twelve grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; one brother: Donald Schaner of Mason, MI; several nieces and nephews.  Special Friends, Bob (Shirley) Oles of Hart.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Schaner will be Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 11:00 am at St. Gregory Catholic Church with Father Thomas Bolster presiding. Interment will be in the Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at King Funeral Home & Cremation Services, where the Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 PM.
