Evelyne Elizabeth Noffke, 92, of Pentwater, MI, died Saturday, March 30, 2013 at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility in Hart, MI, under the care of Hospice of Michigan. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to King Funeral Home in Hart, MI.
Evelyne was born October 5, 1920 in Indianapolis, IN, to William Rudolf and Valeska Kettner. She graduated from Shortridge High School in 1938 and from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN, with a BS degree in Business Administration, on June 8, 1942. She had completed more than half her course work towards a Master's degree.
She met her husband, the Rev. Walter William Noffke, at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church's youth group in Indianapolis and they married on February 15, 1942.
Evelyne was active in many church programs and was the Office Manager at St. Peter's United Church of Christ (UCC) in Champaign, IL, for eighteen years. During her years at St. Peter's UCC, she also served in various positions as the Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, the Children's Cherub Choir Director, and the Director of summer sessions of Vacation Bible School.
She and Walter joined the Hart Congregational UCC in November 1981 where she sang in the choir, served on the Deacons Committee and was a member of the Women's Fellowship.
Evelyne joined Chapter AR of PEO, in Champaign, IL, on January 12, 1965 and later joined Chapter EU of PEO in Ludington, MI, as a charter member on May 5, 1990. After moving to Pentwater, MI, she worked at the Huntington Bank in Pentwater for a period of time.
Evelyne was known for her gracious hospitality and her remarkable skill in the kitchen, not only preparing meals, but also baking and providing countless cookies and blueberry and cherry pies to her family, as well as church functions. She was an excellent seamstress and spent hours making quilts and sharing the results of her many sewing projects with others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Alise Pauli, and an infant son, Mark.
She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Walter Noffke of Pentwater, MI; three children, Chris (Cinda) Noffke of Baroda, MI; Matthew (Nancy) Noffke of Wyoming, IL; and Paulette (David) Brundage of Centennial, CO; and six grandchildren, Marisa (Derek) Friske, Angela (Brandon) David, Joshua Noffke, Matthew Brundage, Mark Brundage, and Davina Noffke.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in her memory be made to the Congregational UCC in Hart, MI.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Congregational UCC, 408 S. State Street, Hart, MI, 49420, with the Rev. Lorraine Boucon presiding.
Evelyne's cremains will be placed in the columbarium at Pentwater Township Cemetery in a private service at a later date.
