Obituary

Florence Jeffries passed peacefully into eternal life on Easter Sunday, April 8, 2007 after a brief illness and stay at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility. Florence was born in Milwaukee, WI on December 5, 1916, one of three children of Emil and Martha Benesch. She grew up, went to school and worked in Milwaukee until meeting A.J. "Jim" Jeffries, while working as a Red Cross Volunteer at the Veterans' Hospital. Florence and Jim were married on September 15, 1951 at St. Mathews Parish in Milwaukee, after which they would return to Pentwater, MI to live, where Jim had been a lifetime resident. Florence and Jim had four sons, all of whom survive, Tom of Coos Bay, OR, Bert of Pentwater, Robert of Pentwater and Charles of Muskegon. She was preceded in death by her mother and father and two brothers, Lester and Norman. Florence was a member of St. Vincents Catholic Church in Pentwater, where over the years she was involved in the Altar Society and served as commentator, reader, Eucharistic Minister, religious education teacher, parish council member, and worked on many church projects and functions. Florence was active in Pentwater Village and Township government through the years serving as village treasurer and on the zoning board. She also served on the Township Library Board, Board of Review and on many election boards through the years. Florence had many hobbies including working in her yard and gardening and stamp and cover collecting and for many years put up stamp displays in the lobby of the Pentwater Post Office. She also loved and supported the Pentwater Civic Band which plays concerts that are a Thursday evening tradition in the summer in Pentwater. Florence also looked forward to yearly returns to Milwaukee to visit friends and relatives. The Mass of Christian Burial for Florence will be offered Saturday, April 14, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Vincents Catholic Church with Fr. Anton Tran presiding. Interment in Pentwater Township Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Tate-King Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be prayed at 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be given to the Pentwater Township Library or to St. Joseph Catholic Church Religious Education Building Fund.
