Father Norberto Lacuesta Leyrita, age 87, entered into eternal life on October 10, 2019.  Father Leyrita was born on June 6, 1932, in Lambunao, Iloilo, Philippines, son of Simeon and Candida Lacuesta Leyrita.  He was ordained to the priesthood on December 21, 1963, in the Philippines.  After a year and a half of ministry there, Father Norbert was sent to Peru as a missionary for 11 years.  On March 12, 1976, he came to minister in the Diocese of Grand Rapids and served in several West Michigan parishes.  He assumed senior priest status on July 3, 2001.

Father Norbert was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister, Caridad.  He is survived by his brother, Alfredo, and many relatives.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the Norbert L Leyrita Living Trust, 191 N Michigan Ave, Shelby, MI 49455. Donations will help finish construction of the Lambunao Parochial High School in his home village.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Thursday, October 17, 2019, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, 2964 W. Winston Road, Rothbury, MI 49452, with Bishop David Walkowiak presiding. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, October 16, 2019, with the Rosary beginning at 7:30 PM, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church. Burial will be in Our Lady of Assumption Cemetery.
