Obituary

Mrs. Frances Josephine LaPorte, age 94, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at the Oceana County Medical Care Facility in Hart. She was born July 7, 1912, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Jorissen) VandenHeuvel. She worked as a housekeeper for families in Chicago and Grand Rapids and then met her husband Edward LaPorte. They were married on June 2, 1936. They lived on a farm in Weare Township and she was active in the St. Joseph's Rosary and Altar Society. They moved to Hart in 1967 and had a mobile home in the Pines Trailer Court. While living in Hart, they were members of St. Gregory Parish. Her interests included quilting, sewing and cooking. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn (Don) Walsworth of Mears and Ruthann (Noel) Beyer of Saginaw. Grandchildren: Brenda (Terry) Birkman of Hart, Mark Walsworth of Hart, Kevin (Chris) Fishel of Cincinnati, OH, Roger, Eddie, Billy, Dawn, Yvonne, Michele and Shawn. Great-Grandchildren: Michele Amstutz, Michael Birkman, Gabrielle and Michaela Fishel, Deldayne Merrill. Nieces and Nephews: Eileen Dick, Tom (Mickie) VanderSteen, Norb (Jackie) VanderSteen, Ray VanderSteen, Lorraine (Danny) Rogers, Edwin (Yvonne) VandenHeuvel, Richard VandenHeuvel. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward on September 13, 1998 at the age of 88, son Joseph, daughter Janet, sisters Marie (Bob) Kokx, Betty (Jim) Johnston, who later married Bob Kokx, Henrietta (Paul) VanderSteen, Theresa (Jack) Rose, brothers Gene, Louie (Irene), Edwin (Ann) VandenHeuvel. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 11:00 AM from St. Gregory Catholic Church with Fr. Ron Schneider presiding. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Weare Township. Friends may meet the family Friday from 4-8 PM at the Tate-King Funeral Home, where a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be given to the Crystal Valley Care Fund, Cherry Blossom Manor, and Oceana County Medical Care Facility or to the charity of your choice.
