Frances P. Sommerman, 92, of Traverse City, died Friday, January 19, 2024, at Boardman Lake Glens Brigadoon in Traverse City.  She was born November 16, 1931, in St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Frank and Pearl (Nablo) Wood.

Fran worked as a nurse for 25 years; she was ALWAYS a nurse, even in retirement.  She enjoyed playing golf and had twice hit a hole in one!  She also enjoyed boating and fishing with her husband, Jim, whom she always seemed to out-fish.  She loved to garden and was a member of the Traverse Garden Club; and she could name all the songbirds, trees, and shrubs.  She and Jim shared a love of cars; they were members of the Twin Bay British Car Club (TBBCC) and loved cruising in their British cars.  The couple also wintered in Florida for 25 years.  More than anything, Fran cherished time spent with her family; her son and grandkids will all remember that she loved to play board games.

Fran is survived by: her son, Mark (Marta) Sommerman of Traverse City; grandchildren, James (Jenny), Katie, Michael, and several great-grandchildren, and other relatives.

On May 21, 1954, Fran married James Sommerman who preceded her in death on October 11, 2023.  She was also preceded in death by: her son, Eric (Shelly) Sommerman; her parents; and her sisters, Louise, Bernice, and Joyce.

A joint celebration of life for Fran and Jim will take place at 1:00 PM, Saturay, May 4, 2024, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, 511 S. Garfield Avenue, Traverse City, Michigan  49686.
