Mr. Franklin L. Knowles, age 73, died Friday, August 17, 2007. He was born in Colfax Township on February 13, 1934 to Max and Essie (Flanery) Knowles. Frank treasured his early years on the family farm with his parents and 10 siblings. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and nature. In 1954, Frank married the former Lita Scouten and they shared 17 years together. In the summer of 1954, he drove an 18-wheeler to Chicago, loaded with produce from the family farm. Mr. Knowles was employed as a drill press operator at Brunswick Corporation from1955-64. Frank was a volunteer fireman for the Walkerville Fire Department from 1954-60. He enjoyed playing baseball and basketball in the Walkerville High School Alumni League. He and his family attended Walkerville United Methodist Church and Muskegon's Crestwood United Methodist Church. In later years, Frank enjoyed visiting the ever-growing family and playing cards at holiday gatherings. Franklin is survived by 5 children, Lori (Randy) Smith of Muskegon, Gaylord (Karen) Knowles of Muskegon, Pam Hendrickson of Apache Junction, AZ, Dawn (Steve) Sukis of Chandler, AZ, and Paula Harjer of Muskegon; and 6 grandchildren, Gabriel, Nathan, April, Corine, Autumn, and Adam; 7 sisters, Vera Slocum, Joanne Reed, Rosemary (Richard) Jordan, Pat (Bob) Maciejewski, Linda Dodds, Peggy (John) Bond and Vickie (Ronald) Perry; brother-in-law, Donald Snow; sisters-in-law, Sharon Knowles and Mary Anne Knowles. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Audrey Snow; brothers, Ronald Knowles and Max Knowles Jr; brothers-in-law, Dick Slocum, Joseph Reed and Herb Dodds. A special thank you is extended to caregivers Sharon Roberts, Katherine Snyder, and Tony Raschi. The funeral service for Mr. Knowles will be held on Monday, August 27, 2007, 12:00 p.m. at Walkerville United Methodist Church with Reverend Ronald Worley officiating. Interment in Fairlawn Cemetery, Walkerville. Memorial contributions may be given to the United Way of the Lakeshore.
