Shumsky
April 3, 1925 – February 19, 2019
Freda Mae Shumsky, 93, of Ludington, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, February 19, 2019. She was born April 3, 1925, in Ludington, the daughter of Fred and Martha (Gallagher) Zalusky.
Freda Mae graduated from St Simon School and continued her journey of growing with the Lord as a lifelong member of St Simon Catholic Church. She took great joy in serving her church and community by taking an active part in St Anthony's Circle, the Catholic Daughters, the Child Study Club and the Arbor Day Foundation.
Freda Mae and her husband Martin, of 70 years, were truly a special pair. They enjoyed entertaining, playing cards with friends, and traveling. In their retired years they acquired a home in Florida where they could be close to family and friends, enjoy the sunshine, and embark on cruises. Freda Mae and Martin loved the company of friends and family more than anything, especially their grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandsons.
Freda Mae is survived by, 3 children, William (Michele) Shumsky of Brandon Florida, Janet Horacek of Ludington and Peggy Grant of Ludington; 7 grandchildren, Christa (Daniel) LaDuke of Ludington, Brian (Erica) Shumsky of Denver, Colorado, Matthew (Kendra) Grant of Baden, Pennsylvania, Jennifer Schembri of Valrico, Florida, Brandon (Virginia) Grant of Ludington, Gina (Mike) Youngblood of Tampa, Florida, and Serra (Patrick) Saxton of Ludington; 19 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandsons.
Freda Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Shumsky. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Sherry Ann; her brother, Fred Zalusky Jr.; and her son-in-law Dennis Grant.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 PM, February 23, 2019, at St Simon Catholic Church in Ludington, with Father Wayne B. Wheeler presiding. Interment will be in the Pere Marquette Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday from 1:00 PM until the time of Mass.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ludington Area Catholic School.
