On May 9, 2014, Frederick John Bruin went to Heaven to be with his Lord, at his Michigan home at Silver Lake in Mears, Michigan. He was born June 3, 1934 to Harm and Hattie (Noorman) Bruin in Grand Rapids, MI. He is survived by his wife, Marian (Peterson) Bruin, and his seven children: Marcia (Bruce) Butgereit, Jerry (Karen) Bruin, Midge (Kevin) Krueger, Marlene (Alvin) Gehrke, Marilynn Klawiter, Marji (Jim) Scheele, and Marla (Karl) Koepke, and three step children: Bill (Margaret) Rock, Karen (Bruce) Haveman, and Terry (Jack) Fisher, along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Raymond (Pat) Bruin of Silver Lake and Jack (Vivian) Bruin of Gobles, MI; and one sister, Clara (Bob) Boersma of Lowell, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald and Richard Bruin.
He loved his family and always looked forward to hosting his annual family reunion at his Silver Lake home.
He volunteered at Grace Youth Camp and faithfully served his church (both in Florida and in Michigan). Fred was employed as a Truck Driver for Holland Motor Express until his retirement in 1989. He enjoyed fishing, sailing, and riding bicycle. Fred is well known for his energetic enthusiasm for helping others. Anyone who knew him has a story of how he was always helping others.
The Memorial Service for Mr. Bruin will be held Thursday, May 15, 2014
at 2:00 PM from Grace Adventures, 2100 Ridge Rd., Mears, MI, with the Rev. Kenneth Vanderlaan officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Grace Adventures, 2100 Ridge Rd., Mears, MI 49436. Friends may greet the Bruin family at the fellowship reception immediately following the service.
