In his youth, Gary lived in several towns in Michigan. He especially enjoyed his high school years in St. Johns where he proudly earned varsity letters in football, basketball, and tennis. He eventually settled in Montague and enjoyed a long and successful career working in the telephone industry. He worked primarily in Michigan but would occasionally travel for work to other Midwestern states such as Indiana and Ohio.
Gary found time outside of work to pursue many hobbies such as working on car restoration in his pole barn and enjoying the great outdoors. He was an active citizen in his community where he was a member of several clubs including a snowmobile club and the Eagles. Gary loved to snowmobile and helped to maintain trails in West Michigan. Over the years, he won several community awards.
