Gary L. Stewart, 73, of Whitehall, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 after a long, and valiant battle with cancer.

Gary was born September 13, 1944 to parents Donald and Violet Stewart. Gary lived most of his life in the White Lake area. He was a longtime auto mechanic at Chet's Service Station in Whitehall, and retired from Howmet in 2003. Gary was an avid outdoors-man, who loved fishing, hunting, and sports of all kinds. He was an extraordinary athlete, graduating from Whitehall High School, where he won numerous awards. Gary was even actively recruited right out of high school by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He loved flying-in to remote areas of Canada to fish. Shooting skeet at the Gun Club, and golfing with his friends and siblings were other favorite pastimes of his. He was also an avid reader, especially history.

Gary is survived by his life partner and best friend, Jackie Gokey; son, Andy; sisters, Donna Wright and Susan (Phil) Johnson; brother, Al (Mary Jo) Stewart; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved Golden Retriever, Tuffy.

Gary was preceded in death by his daughter, Sally Stewart; parents; and sister, Nancy Stidham.

A Celebration of Gary's life will be conducted Wednesday, November 8, 2017, 2-4pm, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service- White Lake Chapel: 413 S. Mears Ave. Whitehall, MI 49461. Cremation has taken place. Gary will be buried alongside his daughter at Oakhurst Cemetery, in Whitehall.
