Mr. George Buchner, Jr., age 79 of Hart, died Wednesday, December 16, 2009. George was born January 11, 1930 in Hart, Michigan and had been a lifetime resident. He married the former Marilyn Brower in Hart on September 26, 1981. For 40 years, he was a member of the International Operating Engineers and had been employed as a crane operator with Bultema Dredge and Dock, Canonie, Prince Bridge and Hardman Construction. He was also a member of the Oceana Eagles. George was the epitome of the selfless volunteer in our community. A skilled mechanic, he enjoyed fixing anything for anyone. His tireless efforts and help in maintaining the grounds of St. James Episcopal Church in Pentwater and the Lever Road Cemetery are well known. George spent winters in his basement workshop making unique stone baskets for family and friends. Some are lucky enough to have two. George and Tootie shared 37 years together. They took many wonderful trips around the country and abroad, sharing their experiences with family and their many friends. The full extent of George's quiet and generous contributions to our community will not be fully known until it is noticed that things are not getting done. He loved all of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and he will missed by all of them. George is survived by his wife Marilyn "Tootie" Buchner of Hart; their children, Cathy Maree (Steve) Clark of Bozeman, MT, Michael George (Patricia) Buchner of Otisville, MI, Steve (Beverly) Brower of Manistee, MI, Karen Way of Pentwater, Lee (Nancy) Brower of Radford, VA; 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Mae Reed in 1970, 1 son, Kenneth Lee Buchner in 2002, 3 brothers, Charlie, Conrad and Henry, 1 sister, Rose Schaallema, son in law, Marvin Way in 2005. The Memorial Service for Mr. Buchner will be held Monday, December 21, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. from the Tate-King Funeral Home with Fr. Sam Morrison officiating. Interment will be in the Hart Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Monday, one hour prior to the service at the Tate-King Funeral Home and also following the service at the Hart VFW Post 1329, where a reception will be held. Memorial contributions may be given to the St.Gregory's Food Pantry in Hart or the Good Samaritans in Hart.
