Obituary

George Edward Seperic Jr, a beloved figure in his community, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 4, 2026, surrounded by the people he loved. Born on September 17, 1941, in Saint Johns, Michigan, George was the cherished son of George Sr and Margaret Seperic.

For 38 remarkable years, George owned and operated the South Riley Grocery and Tavern, a cornerstone of his community where he welcomed everyone with open arms and a warm smile. His genuine care and hospitality made him a local legend, and he had an unparalleled ability to make everyone feel like family.

George was a passionate supporter of Michigan State University sports, fervently cheering on the football and basketball teams. In his earlier years he took great joy in playing fast pitch softball mainly as a first baseman, and whenever he could steal a moment for himself, he found solace in fishing.

Beyond his many interests and achievements, it was George's character that left a lasting impact. His kindness and generosity were felt by all who knew him. Before he passed, George had a message for everyone he was leaving behind:“Being at South Riley for as long as I had been, I’ve served generations of families. It has been my pleasure to serve you all.”

These words encapsulate the legacy he leaves behind—one of service, community, and enduring friendship.

A celebration of George's life will be held at 12:00 PM on August 16, 2026, at the South Riley Tavern, located at 10777 Francis Road, Dewitt, MI 48820. Family, friends, and those whose lives he touched are invited to gather in remembrance of this extraordinary man.
