Mrs. Germaine E. Owens, age 93 of Hart, died December 30, 2008. She was born in Hart on February 15, 1915 to Michael and Cecilia (Hipley) Schaner. She was a lifetime area resident, a graduate of Hart High School and a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church.
On October 24, 1942 in Topeka, KS, she married Russell Owens and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1998. Mrs. Owens was a homemaker, but also had worked as a cashier at Hansen Foods and formerly for Lyle Kemp. She also had worked for the Oceana Hospital. Mrs. Owens loved to travel and was an active member of the Altar Society of St. Gregory Catholic Church. She is survived by her family, son, Dennis Owens of Hart; daughters, Barbara Ann (Loren) Stafford and Connie Lee (Terry) Luchterhandt, both of Missouri; 7 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Russell, granddaughter, Lori Stafford, sister, Margaret Spitler, brothers, Ted and Fred Schaner. She was also preceded by a special friend, Vern Hasty in 2008. The Mass of the Resurrection will be offered Saturday, January 3, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from St. Gregory Catholic Church with Fr. Ronald Schneider presiding. Interment in the Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, one hour prior to Mass at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Oceana County Medical Care Facility.
