IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gladys Ellen
Kanwischer
February 27, 1929 – March 12, 2017
Gladys E. (Hoffman) Kanwischer, 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2017. She was born February 27, 1929 in Chicago, IL, to Arnold and Eleanor (Vacik) Hoffman. Gladys graduated from Gage Park High School and attended Bryant Stratton Business College both in Chicago, IL. She married the love of her life, her babe, Gust Kanwischer on September 24, 1949. She and Gust raised their family in Lombard, IL and spent their retirement years in Panama City, FL and Montague, MI.
She owned her own grooming business, Les Chiens Chic, that marked the beginning of her lifelong love of dogs, especially standard poodles and boxers. She was a natural leader and worked as a corporate trainer for Illinois Bell and was a consultant for ATT.
She was a classy passionate woman who loved her family and friends that she entertained at any chance. Her grandchildren were affectionately known as her treasurers. She would never say no to a grandchild, anything that glittered, a shopping trip, a card game or a good Manhattan.
Gladys is survived by her children Karen (Tom) Mott, Kurt (Kathy) Kanwischer; her grandchildren Brian (Lisa) Mott, Kristin (Kevin) Stefek, Jared (Cathy) Mott, Kara (Mike) Claxton, Kristofer (Ashley Hanneken) Kanwischer; great-grandchildren Kendall, Kaitlyn, Ryleigh, Lauren, Parker, Effie, Austin, Vera, Owen, Eliza, Rowan and Luna ; and "adopted" grandchildren Tiffany and Ashlyn. She was preceded in death by her husband Gust, and her parents, Arnold and Eleanor Hoffman.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 25, 2017 at St. James Lutheran Church, 8945 Stebbins St, Montague, with Pastor John Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of services at the church.
The family would like to thank Janet and her staff at Bush Creek Manor for the loving care of our mother/grandmother. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in honor of Gladys to Bush Creek Manor, 1023 Alice St, Whitehall, MI 49461.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, in Whitehall, is in charge of arrangements.
