Mr. Glen L. Helmer, age 86, of Hart, died Saturday January 3, 2009. He was born in Elbridge Township on September 14, 1922 to Ed and Margaret (Tanner) Helmer. Mr. Helmer was a maintenance man at Stockley's, Silver Mills Foods, Pie factory, and Fish factory. He also worked at Continental Motors and had farmed all of his life. He served his country in W.W. II in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater. He married Lavina Wambaugh who preceded him in death in 1986. Mr. Helmer is survived by his family, Terry (Shirley) Helmer of Hesperia, Raymond (Nancy) Helmer of Hart, Albert (Michelle) Tanner of Walkerville; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Robert (June) Helmer of Shelby and Art (Alice) Helmer of Hart. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Marilyn Tanner of Hart. In addition to his wife Lavina, he was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Betty Marie Helmer and daughter, Helen Osborn; 2 brothers Earl Helmer and an infant brother, Donald Helmer. A gathering of family and friends will be Tuesday from 6-8 P.M. at the Tate-King Funeral Home. Interment will be in Elbridge Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
