Gordon Wayne Heykoop, 84, of Whitehall, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020. He was born January 21, 1936, in New Era, the son of Joseph J. and Hilda Grace (DeVries) Heykoop.

Gordon grew up in Shelby, and upon graduating from high school in 1954, he joined the US Army. While stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany, he met the love of his life, Hildegard Weber. They were married on September 19, 1957, and spent the next 23 years traveling the world and raising their 3 daughters. Upon retirement in 1977, they moved back to Whitehall.

After 1 year of retirement, Gordon went to work as a state guard at the prison in Muskegon. Eighteen years later he retired again and enjoyed his retirement with his loving wife living in his dream log home on 32 acres of land just outside of Whitehall.

Gordon is survived by: his wife of 63 years, Hildegard Heykoop; daughters, Jan Selnes, Gena (Art) McGahan, and Sue (Gary) Swain; son, Todd (Ashely) Heykoop; grandchildren, Nicole Selnes, Jennifer Selnes, McKenzie Mills, David McGahan, Danielle (Jon) Demumbrum, Adam (Kacey) Swain, Kaia Swain, Gary Swain, and Ellie Heykoop; and 8 great-grandchildren.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hilda Grace Heykoop.

Memorial services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Friday, December 18, 2020, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, 413 South Mears Avenue, Whitehall, MI 49461.
