IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gregorio
Trevino
August 6, 1947 – December 7, 2021
A proud veteran of the Vietnam War, Gregorio Treviño, is grieved by his family and friends. Greg left his physical body to become an angel to all of the many family members he cherished on Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
Gregorio was born to Emma (Flores) and Praxedis Treviño on August 6, 1947 and graduated from Shelby High School.
He was a "cool cat" in and around these parts (Rothbury, Montague, and Shelby) before these parts knew what being cool was (at least that's what he once told his grandsons). In his younger years, you'd find him at the old "RT" (which is still standing) hustling pool for extra money or hustling his way into some girl's heart by teaching her pool.
A self-proclaimed ladies' man, he always had a full dance card anyplace he frequented. He loved to dance and he was good at it. It was about 17 years ago that he and his wife Cynthia Goforth-Treviño blended her family, Leah, Cindy and Jordan, with his. And it was a few years before that when they began their fair share of wearing in the dance floor at the Half Moon and anyplace there was some ole time rock'n'roll playing. Dad took fashion advice from no one. He was a color coordinating, fashion aficionado and he took a lot of pride in his brightly colored shirts with popped collars and just as brightly colored tennis shoes or a nicely fitted shirt jacket (still with the popped collar) and his dancing shoes.
He had a lifelong love affair for homemade french fries with some soupy pinto beans, his older sister Lucinda's rice with beans, eggs & chorizo wrapped in a tortilla (preferably with a side of beans) and Cindy's fideo...with, you guessed it, beans. He never said no to a restaurant that served good, local fried fish or roasted chicken. One of his favorite things in his later years he was meeting his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews at Pizza Ranch to laugh and tell stories.
Our dad worked hard into his 70's and he played harder throughout his whole life. He was an excellent bowler and acquired several bowling rings and championships with his local teams. He was a great golfer, he played golf a few times with his brothers Juan and Lupe and he enjoyed that the most. He also played softball into his 40's with his brother-cousin-friend Jose' (Joe) by his side. Moreover, he did all of this left-handed (a great source of pride for him). He told the same, familiar story of memories fishing with his brothers Rene and Rolando one summer day; they were memories that warmed his heart and that he hoped to one-day duplicate with them.
His favorite drink was whiskey & squirt and on any given Friday night, you would find him at his favorite watering hole sipping on one waiting for the band to start up. He loved watching golf, bowling, cooking shows, the DIY channel and in recent years (after learning to navigate his phone) learned to love hours of watching videos on YouTube to learn how to fix something around the house or his car. Among his very favorite things were his grandkids Tamara, Alexis, Romero, Mateo, Tianna, Ethan, Alyssia, Leanna, Hunter and Alex.
Greg spent the last 20 years making up for lost time with his sons Greg (aka Tom, 47), Mike (44) and daughters Regina and Pauley (both ageless). He helped all of his children with fixing cars, buying cars and if needed jumping cars. He drove long distances for hour-long lunches. He made nearly daily phone calls just to check in. He would help anyone with anything...the neighbors with their snowfilled driveways, a friend who needed something hauled, a stranger that needed a jump or a flat tire fixed, but was especially present for and happy to help his kids with a loan, a ride or work around their homes whatever they needed. Not to mention all of the beloved daycare kiddos that called him Papa over the past 21 years.
He departed due to complications with his heart that was irreversibly broken after losing his siblings over the past few years. The most recent his sister Emma (Machi). Family was probably the most important thing to him and he didn't want to be the last to say goodbye.
To the brother, the friend, the father and the grandfather who left his dentures to his grandsons (upper to one and the lower to the other), you are sorely missed, fondly remembered for all of your unadulterated humor, sentimental stories and loving heart. The truth is, he was a private man who kept his emotions to himself. He liked to smile and laugh and offered the same to anyone who spent more than 10 minutes with him.
Dad, just so you know, from your wife Cindy, from your children and extended children: Leah, Pauley, Mike, Jordon, Cindy, Tom and Regina, you were loved in the hardest of times, in the best of times, always and forever.
Memorial services with military honors will be held at a later date.
