Gvido
Zadvinskis
June 28, 1948 – June 1, 2026
Gvido Zadvinskis died June 1, 2026 while at Medilodge of Suttons Bay, Michigan. Gvido was born in 1948 in a displaced person’s camp in Germany after the family escaped from Latvia during World War II. At the age of four, Gvido and parents Janina and Jazeps and brother, Ivars, came to Grand Haven, Michigan. Here he learned English and eventually graduated from Grand Haven High School. He went on to attend the University of Michigan and graduated in 1970. He briefly taught elementary school in inner city Chicago until he returned to attend U of M’s dental school. He practiced dentistry for many years in Grand Rapids, during which time he was briefly married but never had children. He lived most of his life back in Grand Haven after an early retirement from dentistry. The passion that Gvido had for travel brought him to the Himalayas, the Great Wall of China, rafting the Colorado River, Costa Rica, Thailand to name a few.
Gvido’s brother, Ivars, practiced general surgery in Grand Rapids for over forty years. He moved to Northport upon retiring. When Gvido began having health challenges, Ivars was instrumental in moving his brother up north to be closer. During earlier years, Gvido was always included on family vacations and he brought fun and laughter. A great joy of his were his soul mate niece, Sarah Alvarado of Seattle and his much-loved nephew, Mark Zadvinskis of Saline, Michigan.
Gvido was preceded in death by his mother, Janina and his father, Jazeps. He is survived by his brother, Ivars, his sister in law, Susan Rudder Zadvinskis and his niece and nephew. Also surviving are numerous cousins.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
