Obituary

Edward Bauer, 90, of Mears, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2019, at his home. He was born October 11, 1928, in Battle Creek, the son of Harold and Gladys (VanMiddlesworth) Bauer.

"A short description of myself; I've always been a self-motivated man. In high school I was known as Energetic Ed. I have a deep faith in the Lord it grows deeper each year. I am in individualist; a firm believer in truth, hard work and living by the Ten Commandments." Ed's World 2009

Known to us as Ed, he was blessed to be his own boss, dairy farmer for eight years in Battle Creek, and the owner of Flora Dale Resort, in Mears, for 35 years. He attended many recreational leadership workshops in order to provide the best experience to his summer guests at Flora Dale Resort a.k.a. "resorters". With wife Dolores, they traveled to over 40 countries and every continent. The resorters would view the Sunday night slide show of their travels and Ed's love for the beauty in nature through his photography presentations.

Ed often reminisced with guests, now friends, at the "survivors club" about events on the dunes, duck boat rides, how to take a perfect nap, bragging rights for his wife's wonderful cooking, and stargazing.

Ed was very active in his community, having started the National Asparagus Festival in Hart, and being Santa Claus for many years.

Ed enjoyed hiking with family and friends, visiting national parks, and in 1948, he hitchhiked to California. He was a graduate of Michigan State University, an avid storyteller, and a private pilot of 27 years in his 1958 Cessna.

Ed is survived by: his loving wife, Dolores "Dee" Bauer; children, Harold Bauer, Margaret Bauer, Marilyn Jones, and Beverly Bauer; grandchildren, Ashley Jones and Crystal Bryan; great-grandchildren, Titus and Nathan; sister, Barbara (Harlan) Beers; and sister-in-law, Ann Bauer.

Ed was preceded in death by: his parents, Harold and Gladys Bauer; and brother, Joseph Bauer.
