Mr. Harland P. Nelson, age 86, of Hart, died Sunday, November 2, 2008. He was born May 24, 1922 in Superior, WI to Peter E. and Nettie (Olson) Nelson. He was an employee of Industrial Maintenance Company in Lansing, MI as a foreman. He also worked on the railroad and in construction. Harland served his country for 41 months in the US Army in the Philippines and New Guinea. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hart, a life member of the Hart VFW Post 1329, member of the Hart American Legion Post 234 and was active with the Oceana County Council on Aging. Harland is survived by his son, Barry Lynn (Jodi) Nelson of Saginaw; several nieces and nephews including his niece, Janet (Bill) Hegg of Hart. He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey Nelson in 2006; sisters, Betty Thompson, Shirley Callahan; brother, Gordon Nelson. The service of praise and thanksgiving for new life in Christ will be held Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. from the First Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Looman officiating. Interment will be in the Hart Cemetery with full Military Rites by the Hart VFW Post 1329, Hart American Legion Post 234 and Pentwater VFW Post 6017. Visitation Wednesday 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the Tate-King Funeral Home.
