Obituary

Mr. Harold Franklin Shaw, age 84, of Mears, passed away peacefully into the Lord's hands on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at home with his family. He was born April 14, 1929, in Ashley, Michigan, to A. Franklin and Mildred (Jones) Shaw. Harold graduated from Fowler High School in the Class of 1947. He also graduated from Michigan State University's one year forestry program. Mr. Shaw served in the US Army in Korea. He married Flossie Rensberry on January 20, 1951, in Hillman, Michigan; they were married sixty-two years. Harold enjoyed the forty-four years he worked with the Department of Natural Resources until he retired in 1995, and often paraded as Smokey the Bear for forest fire prevention. He was an avid deer hunter, loved animals, enjoyed hoeing in his garden, and did many crossword and jigsaw puzzles. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was a member of the Hart Wesleyan Church.

Harold is survived by his wife, Flossie Shaw; his children, Terri (Dick) Halfman of Fowler, Gary (Vivian) Shaw of Mears, and Daryl (Margie) Shaw of Shelby; his ten grandchildren, Rebecca (Jason) Darling, Daphne (Nathan) Parsekian, Heather (Tyree) Daniel, Leillani (Joshua) Rager, Bryan Halfman, Julie (Ajay) Vyas, Jennifer (Tim) Cooley, Nicole (Shawn) Leary, Jonathan (Rebecca) Shaw, and Elizabeth (Joe) Klimek; twenty-three great-grandchildren; his sister, Marilyn (Bill) Morey of Gaylord; his brother-in-law, Raymond Schomisch of St. Johns; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Jeanette Schomisch.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Shaw will be Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Hart Wesleyan Church in Hart with Pastor David Gray and Rev. Thomas Schmidt officiating. Interment will be in Mears Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at King Funeral Home.
