Obituary

Harry A. Garrett, age 91, of Scottsdale, AZ, and formerly of Mears, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2011 in Scottsdale. He was born March 17, 1920, in Joliet, Illinois to Clarence and Leota (Grove) Garrett. He married Roberta (Flewellin) on July 6, 1944, in Gary, Indiana. She preceded him in death on Nov. 22, 2004.

During his years as a student at Northern Illinois University, Harry was a player/coach on the football team. Following his graduation, he became a school teacher and an athletic director. Prior to his move to Arizona, he had been affiliated with the Shelby Congregational Church and was an avid golfer at Oceana Country Club for many years. Harry served his country during World War II with Navy Seabees.

Mr. Garrett is survived by his children, Barbara (Dan) Curtis of Pentwater; Janet (Jeff) Swart of Phoenix, AZ; Linda (Ralph) Jenkins of Scottsdale, AZ; and Kent (Cathy) Garrett of Carol Stream, IL; his grandchildren, Marc Curtis, Sarah Curtis, Jessica Jenkins, Rachel Garrett, and Jennifer Garrett; and great-grandchild, Lindsey Jenkins. His brother, Jack (Ruth) Garrett of Pomona Park, FL, and sister, Jane Lamb of Hobart, IN and many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta, and sister Dorothy Barnes.
