Mr. Harry Leonard Perkins, Jr., age 85, of Mears, passed away peacefully at home with his family and pets on Friday, March 9, 2012. He was born June 28, 1926, in Shelby to Harry and Edyth (Schrogren) Perkins. On June 19, 1947 in Greenville, Michigan, he married the former Janice Schrader, who preceded him in death on December 28, 2001. Harry served in the Philippines with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was the former owner and operator with his wife of Vogue Services, located in Belding, Greenville and Ionia, for nearly 50 years until his retirement in 1992. The family store still continues today owned by their nephew, Joe Schrader. He was an active member of the Oceana Golf Club, Belding Lions Club, and Masonic Lodge of Belding. He was also a member the Belding Chamber of Commerce and the Belding American Legion Post 203. Harry, affectionately known by all as "Pa", and Jan, who was known as "Mema", were well- known for their great hospitality, always opening their home and beach to everyone. His life was an example for his family and friends. Although he will be deeply missed, he will remain in our hearts forever. Harry is survived by two daughters: Rebecca Clabuesch of Mears, MI, Holly (Fred Goldberg) Perkins of Grand Rapids, MI; he also has four grandchildren, Sarah Clabuesch, Eric Clabuesch, Brett Goldberg, Josie Goldberg; three great-grandchildren, Dominic, Nichole, Gavin; Brother In Law, Bruce (Sally) Schrader of Greenville, MI. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Betty Jones. The Graveside Service for Mr. Perkins will be Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Shelby. The time of the service will be announced later. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Crystal Valley Care Fund, Belding Lions Club, and Mental Health Foundation of Grand Rapids.
