Obituary

Mrs. Helen M. Gilliland, age 104 of Hart died Tuesday, November 4, 2008. She was born August 1, 1904 in Chicago, IL to Warner and May (Whitman) Auger. Mrs. Gilliland was a graduate of Hart High School in the Class of 1922. She married Ward M. Gilliland on August 21, 1928 in Mears. She was a very eager and effective helpmate to her husband in the operation of the family fruit farm. Her interests included 4-H Clubs, Child Evangelism Good News Clubs, Gideon Auxiliary, active member, First Baptist Church, Oceana County Farm Bureau, Crystal Lake Community F.B. Action Group Leader, County Election Board. Known throughout the community and beyond for many years as an amateur photographer, giving slide talks with nature and devotional themes. A gifted Bible teacher, she led many independent Bible study groups. In the early days at the Oceana Co. Medical Care Facility she served as the first acting (unlicensed) social worker. Mrs. Gilliland is survived by her daughter, Esther M. Moul of Hart; five grandsons, Alan (Dorothy) Moul of Hart, Brad (Pam) Moul of Shelby, Cal (Paula) Moul of Hart, Joel (Lisa) Moul of Hart, Michael (Heidi) Moul of New Era; fifteen great grandchildren; niece, Alice (Ed) Allard; nephew, Jim Herald. She was preceded in death by her husband Ward in September of 1992; two sisters, Alice Auger and Gertrude Herald; parents, Warner and May Auger. The Service of Praise and Thanksgiving for the gift of Eternal Life through Jesus Christ for Helen will be held Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church-Hart with Pastor Elvin L. Harden officiating. Interment will be in the Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 P.M. at the Tate-King Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Oceana Christian School or to the Oceana County Medical Care Facility.
