Mrs. Helen Eilene Johnson, age 86, of Hart, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2016. She was born May 18, 1929, in Hart to James and Corinne (Comley) Makin. Helen graduated from Montague High School and on May 27, 1949 she married Frank Johnson at the Shelby Congregational Church. She was a homemaker and telephone operator. Helen enjoyed watching the birds in her yard. She loved to work in her yard, which was always impeccable. Helen loved to raise vegetables and flowers of all kinds. Her pastimes included doing word search and embroidery. Cooking was her real specialty, better known for her peanut butter frosted chocolate cakes and blueberry pie. Helen was a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed having her grandchildren to come and stay with her. She will also be remembered as being concerned for others before thinking about herself.
Helen is survived by her children, Patricia (Duane) Bickel of Hart, Kenneth (Nancy) Johnson of Hart, and Brian (Jeannie) Johnson of Stony Lake; five grandchildren, Lynn (John) McMullen, Brad (Amy) Bickel, Wendi (Jason) Baker, Samantha Johnson, and Ben (Paige) Johnson; six great-grandchildren, Simeon Bickel, Libby Bickel, Hannah Baker, Noah Baker, Ava Baker, and Joseph Johnson; three step-granddaughters, Charley Payne, Rosie Payne, and Lynne Moore-Payne; one step great-granddaughter, Tesla Payne. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Johnson; parents; brothers, James Makin, and Donald Makin; sisters, Virginia Gorenflo, Jean (Bill) Girard, Alice Carlson; and grandson, Bruce Bickel.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at 11:00 am at King Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Hart with Pastor Jean LeMahieu officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at King Funeral Home & Cremation Services. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Hart VFW Post 1329, 802 South State Street, Hart, MI 49420.
