Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Helen Louise Scane, a remarkable woman of boundless love for her family and friends. Helen was born March 19, 1943, and transitioned out of this life on July 26,2026. Throughout her journey of 83 years, she touched so many lives with her unwavering spirit of perseverance and strength.

Helen married James Scane on November 9, 1963. She worked in a dental office until they welcomed three children into the world. She then changed paths to nurture her family, spending years at the tennis courts, soccer fields and wrestling events. She never missed an opportunity to cheer for her favorite athletes. Her arms were always wide open for advice and support.

She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Maude and Alfred Ferra, and her sister, Lorraine Stafford.

She is survived by: her daughter, Charlene Dwyer (Charley Dwyer); and two sons, Joseph Scane (Patricia Scane) and Leslie Scane (Shannon Scane); grandchildren, Kelsey Dwyer, Derek Dwyer, James Scane, Isabelle Scane, Griffin Scane, Cormac Scane, Connor Scane, Jaime Gillhespy, and Leslie Scane; and great-granddaughter, Arya Gillhespy.

A service celebrating Helen’s exceptional life will be held on August 8, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Shelby United Church of Christ, 51 E 3rd St, Shelby, MI, 49455 with a luncheon to follow. We invite all who knew and loved Helen to join us in honoring her memory.

In lieu of flowers, we encourage you to honor Helen’s legacy of keeping all the animals healthy and their bellies full by donating to Kellys Westshore Animal Friends in Hart to share in her love for all critters big and small. Helen also felt very strongly about the veterans; Gary Sinise Foundation was her favorite to support. We believe that these contributions would be the best tribute to her extraordinary life.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
