Mr. Helidore E. "Toots" "Vandy" VanDenHeuvel, age 78, of Hart, passed away Monday, August 15, 2011. He was born April 2, 1933, in Hart to Clarence and Phyllis (Claeys) VanDenHeuvel. Mr. VanDenHeuvel married the former Katherine E. Coon in Pentwater on April 18, 1953, and she preceded him in death on September 25, 2008. He owned Vandy's Orchards, Buildings Plus, Vandy's Septic and had been a bus driver. He was a member of Elbridge Community Church. He served in the Army as part of the Army of 1953 to 1956. A great husband, father, and grandfather, Vandy had a great sense of humor. He was a golfer and bowler and enjoyed farming and playing cards.

Helidore is survived by four daughters, Julie (Steve) Lamb of Pentwater, Karin (Ken) DeVries of Grandville, Lynne Hoffman of Hart, Kris (Rick) Trygstad of Twin Lake, and one son, Ted (Martie) VanDenHeuvel of Plano, TX; three sisters, Sandra (John) Makin of Shelby, Marlene (Dick) Bogue of Twin Lake, Nancy "Sgt" (John) Tate of Hart and five brothers, Gerald VanDenHeuvel of Hart, Carroll (Vicky) VanDenHeuvel of Hart, Paul (Kay) VanDenHeuvel of Zepherhills, FL, Duane (Sandra) VanDenHeuvel of Norton Shores, David (Jeanne) VanDenHeuvel of Norton Shores; eighteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a son, Mark VanDenHeuvel.

Memorial services for Mr. VanDenHeuvel will be Friday, August 19, 2011, at 1:00 pm at Elbridge Community Church in Hart with Rev. Guy Rayle and Pastor Dennis Hintz officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Hart Historical District.
