Henry Lee Bartz, 89, of Grawn, died Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at French Manor South, in Traverse City, where he was beloved by the staff who affectionately called him “Grandpa.”
Henry was born and raised on the family farm in Monroe Center on August 30, 1936, to Thomas and Wilma (Taylor) Bartz. As a young man, he bought the farm from his parents, becoming the fourth generation of Bartz family farmers. He raised cattle and harvested hay. To support his growing family, Henry worked at Burwood Product Company and later worked at machine shops in Traverse City. His three weeks of vacation time were spent hauling hay. He enjoyed deer hunting, cutting wood, and being with family.
Henry is survived by: his children, Greg (Mary Beth) Bartz, Rebecca (Joe) Young, and Kevin (Cindy) Bartz; seven beloved grandchildren, Jonathan, Rachel, Maggie, Tom, Allison, Alyssa, and Matt; and five great-grandchildren with one on the way.
On April 3, 1954, Henry married Mary Ann Steinebach of Hannah. She preceded him in death on May 26, 2019. He was also preceded in death by: his parents; 18-month-old son, Thomas Bartz; daughter, Pamela Bredahl; and siblings, Jack Bartz, Phyllis Shimek, Kay Rancour, and Bill Bartz.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, 511 S Garfield Avenue, Traverse City, Michigan 49686 with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. A luncheon will follow at the funeral home and burial will take place in Monroe Center Cemetery in Grawn.
