Obituary

Mr. Henry C. "Hank" LaPorte, age 85, of Weare Township, died Wednesday July 30, 2008. He was born in Hart on February 2, 1923 to Fred and Stella (Diegel) LaPorte. He married the love of his life, the former Juanita "Midge" Graham on June 9, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Hank had a long employment history which included being the sexton of Mt. Calvary Cemetery for 32 years and custodian of St. Joseph Catholic Church, had worked at Bennett Pump in Muskegon and the REA and was a custodian and bus driver for the Hart Public Schools until his retirement. He was a Trustee on the Weare Township Board for many years. Hank has been a lifetime resident of Weare Township and until his death resided and farmed on his family's homestead on W. Jackson Rd. He was also musically inclined playing the trumpet and with his siblings formed the LaPorte Family Orchestra. The family toured extensively around the community playing at many events and family socials. He was also a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Hank is survived by their seven children, Alice (Harold) Palka of Lupton, MI, Ken and Zenta LaPorte of Wheat Ridge, CO, Ron (Diane) LaPorte of Hart, Jim LaPorte of Hart, Rick (Sheri) LaPorte of Grand Rapids, Judee Wilson of Hart, Janice (Ryan) Walsworth of Mears; nine grandchildren, Justin (Tonya) Palka, Arin Palka, Christopher LaPorte, Christian LaPorte, Elise LaPorte, Matthew Wilson, Jordon Walsworth, Haley Walsworth, Anna Walsworth; two great grandchildren, Brianna and Brady Zimmer; three sisters, Agnes Kelly of Shelby, Louise Kelly of Traverse City, Marie Hipley of Decatur, MI; several nieces and nephews; special cousin, Wilfreida Greenway of Marquette, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Juanita "Midge", four brothers, Ed, Leo, Clarence and Joseph LaPorte; one sister, Lillian Hill. The Mass of the Resurrection will be offered Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from St. Joseph Catholic Church-Weare with Fr. Anton Tran presiding. Interment in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation Friday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Tate-King Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be given to the Building Fund of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
