Mr. Henry Francis Lewis, age 85, of Shelby, passed away Friday, August 9, 2013. He was born December 28, 1927, in Elbridge Township to Augustus and Julia (Negake) Lewis. He served in the United States Army during from 1948 to 1952 as part of the Army of Occupation – Germany. He married Marcella Henson on December 13, 1965, in Scottville. He worked as a supervisor at Oceana Foods in Shelby for twenty years. He was a member of Hart VFW Post 1329, and the Grand River Band of Ottawa Indians. Mr. Lewis played baseball and softball for many years, including for the Cobmoosa White Sox in the 1940's. He also coached teams in both sports. He enjoyed music and played guitar, piano, and harmonica. He did arts and crafts at many Pow-Wow events.
Henry is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Marcella Lewis; their five daughters, Patricia (Gary) Lewis of Shelby, Anita Lewis of South Haven, Judy (Don) Welch of Cleveland, Tennessee, Shelia Lewis of Alpharetta, Georgia, and Julia Lewis of Muskegon; their five sons, Henry (Pauline) Lewis, Jr. of Allegan, Willie Gene (Dorothy) Lewis of Kentucky, Ronnie (Kari Craton) Lewis of Fennville, Torreanno (Veronica) Lewis of Grand Rapids, and Rodney (Kelly) Lewis of Lake Okeechobee, Florida; one sister, Pauline Cooper of Detroit; twenty-three grandchildren; and twenty-eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Elizabeth Lewis and Lucille Pego; and five brothers, Frederick, Paul, Albert, Joseph, and Frankie Lewis.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Lewis will be Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at King Funeral Home in Hart with Father Thomas Bolster officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at King Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
