Ham Miller, of Pentwater died April 20, 2010 at the age of 83. He was born in Fowler, MI to Edith (Feldpausch) and Fred Miller. After high school, he joined the U.S. Navy serving from 1945 to 1946. He played pitcher for the Duluth Dukes and the Winston-Salem Cardinals minor league baseball teams from 1947 to 1949. He married Kathleen Platte in 1949 and raised nine children in Lansing, MI. He worked as a carpenter on many projects for general contractors in Lansing and then worked for Michigan State University, retiring in 1992. Ham moved from Lansing to Pentwater, MI and enjoyed his summers there and winters at Ocean Resorts in Ft. Pierce, FL. He was a member of the Pentwater Tennis Club and also a member of the VFW Pentwater Post 6017. Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his son Fred H. Miller. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen (Platte), sons Charles (Kay) Miller of Orchard Lake, MI, Thomas Miller of Orchard Lake, MI, Glenn (Joan) Miller of Juneau, Alaska, Keith (Julie) Miller of Crescent Spring, Kentucky, daughters Linda (Donald) Chaffee of East Grand Rapids, MI, Edith (Allan) Smith of Westphalia, MI, Janet (Charles) Strahan of Rockford, MI, Kay (Dan) Salyer of Thompsonville, MI. He is also survived by his sisters Gertrude Schueller, and Theresa (George) Fox, and brother Edmund (Eveline) Miller. If Ham Miller would have earned a dollar for every person he made laugh, he would have been the richest man in the world. The Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Miller will be offered Friday, April 23, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. from St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2380 W. Jackson Rd, Hart, MI with Fr. Charles Brown presiding. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 22, 2010 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the Tate-King Funeral Home, 2370 North 72nd, Hart, MI 49240. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Pentwater VFW Post 6017 or to the American Cancer Society.
