Obituary

Hildegard Heykoop, 85, of Whitehall, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022. She was born January 6, 1937, in Karlsruhe, Germany, to Viktor and Elise (Hansler) Weber.

Hildegard met the love of her life, Gordon Heykoop, while he was stationed with the US Army in Germany. Gordon spotted Hildegard while at the Fashing Parade and decided he had to meet her. As much as she tried to get rid of him, he followed her home. They were together for over 63 years.

Throughout their marriage, Hildegard and Gordon traveled all over the United States and Europe, and raised three daughters. Upon Gordon's retirement from the military, they made their home in Whitehall, Michigan. They built the home of their dreams on 33 acres in the middle of the woods, filling it with all of the treasures they bought at auctions.

Hildegard is survived by: her children, Jan, Sue, Gena, Todd, and their spouses; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and sister, Gisela Kuhl of Tucson, Arizona.

Hildegard was preceded in death by: her parents; her beloved husband, Gordon Heykoop; grandchild, McKenzie "Kenny" Mills; brothers, Werner, Heinz, Kurt, Klaus, and Erik; and sister, Lottie.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of Michigan for their care and support over the past year and a half, and making Hildegard's passing comfortable.

In accordance to Hildegard's wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
