Mr. Howard I. Schrumpf, age 87, died Saturday, October 20, 2007. He was born in Pentwater on July 11, 1920 to McKinley and Florence (Ryckman) Schrumpf. He married the former Dorothy VanNortwick in Ludington on April 6, 1946. Howard was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the US Army Air Corp in Australia. He obtained his Bachelors Degree in Engineering from Michigan State University, where he remained as an active alumnus. Following his graduation from college, Howard was employed as a Tool Engineer at American Seating in Grand Rapids, until retiring in June of 1986. He was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Pentwater, the Doric Masonic Lodge of Grand Rapids, S.M.E. Engineers group and was a charter member of the Pentwater VFW Post 6017. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy; children, Susan (John) Little of Holland, Karl Schrumpf of Detroit, and Cindy (Brad) Smith of Hudsonville; 6 grandchildren, Sonya Little, Jeremiah (Heather) Little, Rebecca Schrumpf, Anna Schrumpf, Kelsey Smith and Taylor Smith; he is also expecting to be a great grandfather to twins; 1 sister, Joyce Gray of Newaygo; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Howard was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Carlson. The Funeral Service for Howard will be held Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at Eleven O'clock from the Centenary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harris Hoekwater officiating. Interment in Pentwater Township Cemetery with full military rites by the Pentwater VFW Post 6017. Visitation will be Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Centenary United Methodist Church. The Masonic Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at Eight O'clock at the church with the Oceana Lodge #200 F. & A.M. officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
