Howard Leroy Terryn, 97, of Walkerville, passed away Tuesday, December 18, 2018, at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont.  He was born October 1, 1921, in Crystal Valley, the son of Peter and Vivian (Unger) Terryn.

Howard served in the US Army during World War II.

Howard grew up on the family farm and continued farming his entire life.  He was also in construction for many years where he worked on several different projects including the Pump Storage Project and building Oceana Highway.  In his spare time, Howard was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He also enjoyed the winters he was able to spend in Zephryhills, Florida, where he made many friends and was able to watch the sky divers.

Howard liked to travel with his wife, Jean, visiting many places throughout the United States as well as several different countries.  One of their trips included a whitewater rafting adventure which he did at the age of 75.  They were members of the Carefree Sams Camping Club and the Melody Makers Square Dancing Club for many years.

Howard is survived by: 4 children, Mark (Cathy Stout) Terryn of White Cloud, Brad (Yvonne) Terryn of Troy, Rita (Kelvin) Lapham of Wayland, and Scott (Christina) Terryn of Oakland Township; 8 grandchildren, Peter (Marci) Terryn, Christopher (Maggie) Terryn, Gregory Terryn, Steven Terryn, Nathan (Ashley) Lapham, Mitchell Lapham, Brooke Terryn and Kyle Terryn; 7 great-grandchildren, Jacob Gawron, Chase Terryn, Maddie Terryn, Maya Terryn, Georgia Terryn, Crosby Terryn and Amelia Lapham; his sister, Wilma Whelan of Hart; his sister-in-law, Nancy (Roger) Glamzi of Scottville; his brothers-in-law, Larry Castonia of Lansing, and Ken (Sandy) Castonia of Muskegon; and numerous nieces and nephews.

On April 25, 1952, Howard married Jeanette Marie Castonia, who preceded him in death on July 25, 2018.  He was also preceded in death by: his parents; and his brother, Wallace Terryn.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, 2370 N. 72nd Avenue, Hart, with Pastor Brett Spalding officiating.  Interment will be in the Crystal Valley Cemetery in the spring.  The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 PM until time of services the funeral home.
