Hunter Jay Shaw, 22, of Montague, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018. Hunter was born on October 4, 1995, to Brian and Kelly Shaw.
Hunter graduated from Whitehall High School where he was a three sport athlete participating in football, wrestling, and track. He played in the Muskegon All Star Classic Football game and placed third in the state as a heavyweight wrestler. Hunter attended Albion College where he majored in Exercise Science and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Additionally, Hunter played Albion Football as a defensive lineman for four years. During his time at Albion, he was named an MIAA Scholar Athlete, and was voted to the MIAA All-Conference Football Team as a defensive tackle during his senior year. Aside from his academics and sports, he personally enjoyed hunting, fishing, lifting, listening to music, drumming, staying active, and being outdoors. He was a compassionate, witty, well-respected man whose smile could light up a room. He will be deeply missed.
Hunter is survived by: his parents, Kelly (Robert) O'Neill and Brian (Donna) Shaw; sister, Nicole Shaw; brothers, Derek (Jamie) Shaw and Kaiden O'Neill; grandparents, Duane (Michelle) Fish, Beverly (Michael) Winn, Vada "Granny" (Victor) Keyes, and Judy Shaw; stepsiblings, Tom (Jennifer) O'Neill, Sean (Ana) O'Neill, Timothy (Brandy) Sooy, and Matthew Sooy; uncles, Darren (Lisa) Fish and Shane Shaw; aunt, Stephanie Linares; girlfriend, Brittany Loder; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by: his grandfather, Tom Shaw; great-grandmother, Eleanor Hooker; and aunt, Amy Fish Gehring.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM, Thursday, September 13, 2018, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, 413 S. Mears Ave. Whitehall, MI, with Pastor Kevin Pycraft officiating. Visitation will take place from 5-8pm on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at the funeral home and also from 10-12pm the day of the funeral.
Memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Special Olympics.
