Mrs. Irene V. Peterson, age 97, of Ludington, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Oakview Medical Care Facility. She was born into this life on July 10, 1917, in Gary Indiana daughter of Stanley and Verna Skowronski. Following her graduation, she married Mr. John Katch on October 1st 1938. The young couple made their home in the Gary/Hammond, Indiana for several years. After the untimely death of her husband John, Irene and her two daughters moved to the Ludington area. On November 4, 1944, she married Mr. George Peterson of Ludington. Irene worked at several jobs throughout her lifetime here. In later years, she retired and left her farm on Stiles Road to move to Longfellow Towers. For the past five years she had been a resident of Oakview Medical Care Facility in Ludington.

Irene is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Germaine (Jerry) Malstrom of Pensacola, FL., and Mrs. Christine (Deacon Dan) Whitaker of Calera, AL; two sons, Mr. Dennis Peterson of Dora, Al., Mr. Richard (Peggy) Peterson of Brenham, TX., fifteen grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Mr. Leo Skowronski; two sisters, Mrs. Sophia Wolfe and Mrs. Dorothy Olszewski; her son, Mr. Raymond (Pat) Peterson; four nephews and one niece.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at St. Simon Catholic Church with Father Wayne Wheeler presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time service. The Interment will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Custer, MI on Friday, April 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to the St. Simon Food Pantry, or St. Simon Catholic School, 702 East Bryant Road, Ludington, MI 49431.
