Obituary

Isaac James "Jim" French, 95, died peacefully December 28, 2023, in Ludington, Michigan.  He was born January 1, 1928, in Farmington, Michigan, the son of Walter James and Mae Bond French.  He joined the Army as a young man and was stationed in Rome, Italy, where he met the love of his life, Lucille Ortenzi.  They were married September 25, 1948, and moved to Big Rapids, Michigan, where they started a family.

Jim was a wonderful husband and father who was very active in his church.  He enjoyed fishing, rebuilding antique Model A cars, wood working, playing cards, and spending time with family and close friends.  He would always lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need.  A true gentleman, Jim will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Jim is survived by: his daughters, Mary Curran, Catherine (Michael) Burch, and Lucy (Daniel) O'Brien; his granddaughter, Mary; his grandsons, Douglas, Keelan, Kyle and Toban; and seven great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by: his beloved wife, Lucille; his daughter, Barbara Gernant, and his sons-in-law, John Curran and Paul Gernant.

In accordance with Jim's wishes, no formal services will be held.  Interment will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Big Rapids.  A Mass in Jim's memory will be celebrated at a later date.
