Jack Michael Nelson, 73, of Traverse City, died Saturday, November 13, 2021, at home.  He was born January 11, 1948, in Pontiac, the son of Julius and Lillian (Woodworth) Nelson.

Jack was a proud Vietnam veteran, serving in the US Army.  He attained the rank of Specialist and was awarded two Purple Hearts.  Following his honorable discharge, Jack enjoyed a long career in the trucking industry that spanned from 1971-2004. He attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Traverse City; was a Mason and member of the Traverse City Lodge #222 F&AM; Past President of the Peninsula Township Fire Department; and was the Grand Traverse Sheriff's Office Reserve Officer of the Year.  In his spare time, Jack enjoyed building birdhouses and being outside.  More than anything, Jack loved his family.

On August 29, 1970, Jack married Janis Frank who survives him.  He is also survived by: his children, Julie (Jeremy) Barrett of Kingsley and Jeff Nelson of Traverse City; grandchildren, Adrianna Nelson, Obediah Nelson, Lillian Nelson, and Jacob Barrett; sister, Claudia Tomsett; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

Jack was preceded in death by: his parents; and siblings, Betty Proctor and Sonny Nelson.

Private services will be held by the family.
