Jacqueline Ann (Hale) Burden, 84, of Mears, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 23, 2022, after a valiant battle with multiple health issues.

Jackie was born in 1938, to Vincent and Martha Hale in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  As a young girl, Jackie attended grade school throughout the Midwest and graduated high school from Washburn High School in Minnesota.  After graduating high school, she went on to earn degrees from schools in Ohio, Florida, and Michigan, eventually earning her PhD in Education from Michigan State University.

After graduating college in Ohio, Jackie landed a job as a teacher in Florida, where she would begin a lifelong career in Education.  Some of the greatest joys in her life came from being able to teach underperforming and/or disadvantaged students both reading and mathematics.  Jackie lived and breathed Education and continued to teach in some sort of capacity for the next 50 years and into retirement.

While working in Florida, Jackie met Herbert Burden, and they wed in 1967.  Eventually they moved to Michigan to be near family where they would remain for the rest of their lives.  Together, they had two children, Bruce and Chris, and enjoyed spending their time together at their cabin on Lake Michigan as well as exploring new places on family vacations.

After retiring in her mid-seventies, Jackie spent her time traveling with family members, reading, watching tennis, and putting together complicated puzzles.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren doing experiments, helping them learn, and playing games.  Jackie was a connoisseur of good food and would be sure to inform you to make sure to purchase the Gulf Shrimp, not any of that farm raised business. Her perfect kind of day was spent with a good cup of coffee and a good book while overlooking an enormous body of water, whether it be at the cabin on Lake Michigan or on vacation on the Ocean.

Jackie is survived by: her brother, Tom Hale; sons, Bruce Burden and Chris (Amber) Burden; grandson, Easton Burden; granddaughter, Bailey Burden; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Jackie was preceded in death by: her father, Vincent Hale; mother, Martha Hale; sisters, Patricia Muessig and Linda Weber; and husband, Herbert Burden.

Jackie leaves this earth having positively impacted many students and family members in a special way that only Jackie could.

No formal services will take place per her request.  A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for immediate family.
