James Alfred Atkins, 55, of Whitehall, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer, at home surrounded by his family June 23, 2018. Jim was born on September 23, 1962, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Ray and Harriet Atkins.

On May 1, 1982, Jim married Sally Brockert. Together they enjoyed 36 years of marriage and were blessed with 5 children. Jim worked as a molder for Kurdziel Iron for 15 years. He was a member of White Lake Baptist and was a Commissioner for White Lake Little League. He enjoyed golfing with his sons, coaching football and baseball, collecting sports cards, and playing "Slot Mania" on Facebook. Jim was also a lifelong Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and Iowa Hawkeye fan. His greatest joy in life was always his family. He was a loving, caring, selfless, family-oriented man. He will be deeply missed.

Jim is survived by: his wife, Sally; daughter, Katie Spicer; sons, James (Falisha Edgerton), Benjamin (Andrea), Jason, and Isaac (Brittany Mcgee); grandchildren, Taylor, Marissa, Cameron, Dominick, Anna, Payton, Wyatt, Carter, Elijah, Julian and Carson; great-grandchild, Jasper; mother, Harriet Atkins; brother, Daniel (Cheryl) Atkins; sisters, Elaine (Mike) Titus and Tina Ross; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: his father, Ray Atkins; grandparents, Charles and Mildred Newcomb; cousin, Tommy Newcomb; brother-in-law, Mike Ross; and great-nephew Johnathon Taylor.

Funeral services will be conducted at 5:00 PM, Friday, June 29, 2018, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service - White Lake Chapel, 413 S. Mears Ave., Whitehall, with Pastor Nathan Sabin officiating.  Interment will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Montague. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to his family to help with expenses.
