James "Jim" Michael Gowen, 77, of Scottville, died Sunday, October 8, 2017, at Spectrum Health Ludington Hospital.  He was born January 27, 1940, in Detroit, the son of Samuel and Beverly (Tyrell) Gowen.

Jim served in the US NAVY from 1957 to 1960.  In 2004, he retired as a brake press operator from Metalworks, in Ludington, where he had been employed for over 25 years.  In his spare time, Jim enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and taking care of his yard.  He also loved his dog, Sassy.

On December 15, 1960, in Detroit, Jim married Burma Jean Leatherman, who survives him.  He is also survived by: 4 sons, David (Brenda) Gowen of Hart, Danny Gowen of Scottville, Jeff (Heather) Gowen of Scottville, and Curt Gowen of Ludington; and 3 grandchildren, Gregory Gowen of New Hampshire, Kaitlyn Gowen of Saugatuck, and Cameron Gowen of Manistee.

Jim was preceded in death by: his parents; and his brother, Doug Gowen.

Cremation has taken place and no services will be held at this time.
