James O. Gustafson, 64, of Riverton Township, Scottville, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at his residence after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 25, 1946 in Hart to Harold and Eleanor (Murphy) Gustafson. Jimmy graduated from Mason County Central High School, served his country for four years in the National Guard and worked as a field supervisor for Cactus Drilling and Ranch Production for thirty years.
Jimmy had a true passion for working in his garden, growing the most bountiful tomatoes in the neighborhood. He took great pride in watching his cattle graze in the backyard. He had been a mentor to all his nieces and nephews. Jimmy had a very special place in his heart for Bobby Adams, the son he never had. Bobby and Jimmy worked and farmed together, creating a very special and everlasting bond that will last an eternity.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, the love of his life for thirty years, Mary; a daughter, Sheri (William) Forbes and his grandchildren, Amber and Joy, who were his pride and joy; his sisters, Irma (Les) Heese of Blanchard, Michigan, Phyllis (Mark) Alvesteffer-Seeback of Pentwater, Barbara (George) Martin of Twin Lake, Patricia (Rich) Sibley of Grand Haven and Loretta (Dan) Petersen of Pentwater; brothers, Larry (Glenna) Gustafson and Jerry (Mary) Gustafson, all of Pentwater. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Donnie, Patrick, and Gary.
Services for Mr. Gustafson will be Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at King Funeral Home in Hart with Pastor Joe Schmucker officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Those wishing a lasting memorial are asked to consider Harbor Hospice or the family.
